“Loving Mother”

WATERTOWN – June Legge, age 88 of Watertown passed away peacefully on January 22, 2018 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness.

June was born June 23 1929 in Waterbury, Ct the daughter of the late John and Anela (Baranoski) Schaefer. She earned a degree in English from UCONN and went on to earn a six-year degree in education. June spent over 37 years teaching at Watertown High School where she also served as the athletic director for 20 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women, a recipient of the Watertown Gold Circle Award, and was an active member of the Watertown Democratic Committee. She received an award from the Waterbury Sportsmen's Club for her work in athletics. She also taught speech for several years at Naugatuck Valley Community College. June was a proud advocate for children and was a long time active parishioner at Our Lady of Loreto Church in Waterbury.

Among her survivors are her son Arthur Legge of Woodbury, her daughters Colleen Spieler and her husband, Michael of Waterbury, Denise Schultze and her husband Dennis of Wolcott, her sister Lois Larkin of Middlebury, as well as her grandchildren Lynnette Guida, Kurits Spieler, Dana, Devon, and Drew Schultze and her great grandchildren Harley Guida, Lily, and Quinn Schultze.

Funeral services for Mrs. Legge will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady or Loreto Chruch 12 Ardsley Rd Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery located at 669 Platt Rd, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with June’s family on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 evening from 4:00 till 6:00 p.m. at O’Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville, CT.
