Obituary for Anne Spohrer

WATERTOWN – Anne (Waniga) Spohrer, age 96 of Watertown, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, at the home she grew up in as a child in Watertown. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry S. Spohrer to whom she was wed for 55 years.

Anne was born March 5th 1921 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Michael and Julia Waniga. She attended Watertown public schools and worked at Watertown Manufacturing, where she met her husband, Harry. Anne also worked for Uniroyal of Naugatuck for many years before retiring to devote her time to her husband, children and grandchildren. Being of Russian decent, she loved to cook traditional meals that the family grew up on and passed her talent for cooking and canning on to her children. She also loved the company of her dogs, Maxwell, Moosey, and Tessa, whom she cherished.

Among her survivors are her son, Harry S. Spohrer Jr and his wife, Holly, her two grandchildren, Harry S. Spohrer III and his brother, Scott C. Spohrer all of Watertown. In addition, she also leaves her nieces and nephews and their children. She will be sadly missed by all who were bless to know and love her. She is predeceased by her daughter, Sharon A. Spohrer of Berwick, PA and her brother, John Waniga of Springfield, MA.

Funeral services for Mrs. Spohrer will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at The O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St. Oakville CT. 06779. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Russian Cemetery, Stillson Rd. Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Anne’s family at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00- 7:00pm.
